Temporary HGV Class 1 Drivers in Cardiff

Articulated cover for Cardiff and Wales: Class 1 drivers booked around your trailers, your routes and your start times.

South Wales

Keeping Cardiff trunk routes running

Temporary Class 1 drivers who have done this kind of run before.

Night trunking between the Cardiff and Newport ABP ports, Cardiff Bay and the M4 corridor parks and the national hubs is typical Class 1 work across South Wales. We match drivers who want night work, not just any shift.

Hauliers and 3PLs across South Wales book Class 1 cover for holiday gaps, sickness and new contracts. Tell us the pattern and the length of the booking.

Hauliers serving steel and heavy manufacturing logistics, food and drink distribution, port operators and regional 3PLs need drivers who can handle the trailer types those customers use.

How it works

Three steps to cover

We match the driver

We look for C+E drivers who have run similar work and want that shift pattern.

You confirm the booking

We tell you who is starting, when and where, so the transport office can plan around it.

We stay on the booking

If the cover needs extending, you tell us and we plan the next shifts.

What to include in a Class 1 request

An artic without a driver is expensive to leave standing. Temporary Class 1 cover in Cardiff keeps the unit and the trailer earning while a regular driver is away.

Class 1 shifts tend to fall into three shapes: nights trunking between hubs, days on general haulage and tramping with nights out. Each suits a different driver, so we ask which one you run.

For a Class 1 request, include:

  • The start time and the first run
  • How many nights or weeks of cover
  • Parking and facilities for nights out
  • Who the driver reports to and where to collect the keys
Compliance

Before the keys change hands

We check C+E entitlement on the licence itself, review endorsements, confirm Driver CPC currency and the card expiry and check the tachograph card before the first run.

Past the licence check, we look at recent artic work: trailer types, distances and whether the driver has done nights lately.

Class 1 FAQs

Your Class 1 questions

What does a Class 1 driver need to hold?

Category C+E entitlement, a current Driver CPC — 35 hours of periodic training every five years — and a digital tachograph card, plus ADR for dangerous goods work.

Can you cover night trunking?

Yes. Tell us the start time and the legs. We match drivers who want night work and have run trunks before.

How much notice do you need?

Planned cover is easiest with a few days' notice. Short-notice requests get a straight answer on what we can confirm.

Do you cover sites near Cardiff?

Yes. We book Class 1 drivers for sites across Wales. Tell us where the unit is based.

Do you also recruit permanent Class 1 drivers?

Yes. Our permanent driver desk places Class 1 drivers onto your payroll when you want a seat filled for good.
